Cristie Ondrejack
Fishers Elementary
I have been married to my husband, Adam, for nearly 23 years and we have two amazing daughters, Lauren and Megan. My family moved to Fishers in October 2005 after spending over a year living and traveling on a sailboat. (Ask me about that sometime!) I began my teaching career as a permanent substitute at Fall Creek Elementary and then, after finishing my teaching degree, I taught third grade. My happy place has always been a library where I had access to limitless adventures and knowledge so I worked to obtain my library media specialist certification. This is my first year as a media specialist at Fishers Elementary and I love every minute of it! I have the opportunity to develop a love of reading for over 450 students in my building and there is simply nothing like having a student return to tell me all about the book they just read and why it was so fantastic! Of course, there is a lot more to my day than pointing students in the right direction for a just right book, I also have opportunities to teach them to be responsible users of technology, research experts, and collaborative learners. My library is not a traditional library, it is noisy and busy with students moving here and there and that is exactly the way we like it! Students are actively engaged in hands-on learning through a variety of activities and if the room is ever silent, it must be empty!
